Texas TERA was developed with input from a group of young adults with disabilities who contemplated their independent living options.
– Kate May, Ex. Dir. As we contemplated our independent living options, we identified a critical unmet need – a physical place where we could see assistive devices in their use settings and have the opportunity to try and compare them.
The consumer group met periodically for two years and determined that an organization needed to be formed to address this need. In the fall of 2007, Texas TERA was founded to create and maintain a central home-like location to provide information, assistive technology tool demonstrations, and training. The organization also has developed a strong and deeply committed governing Board of Directors, one that includes volunteers with disabilities and with direct knowledge and experience related to our mission and goals.
